Préludes, Op. 1 is an ongoing photographic project that documents my experience of observing the world in real time, as I begin to approach photography with greater intention and seriousness. I think of these images less as finished works and more as studies. They exist in the space of practice, not performance.

The title draws from my background as a classical musician, referencing Frédéric Chopin’s préludes, a series of short, self-contained pieces organized within a larger system. Each photograph functions similarly, centered around a specific idea, feeling, or impulse. Like Chopin’s works, these images are often brief and intuitive, shaped by immediacy rather than resolution.

This project is a way of tracking my own development without presenting it as complete. It resists the pressure to arrive at a fixed style or answer. Instead, Préludes, Op. 1 remains open-ended, allowing each image to shift, accumulate, and redefine the project over time.
